The Psychiatric Hospital, Day 8

No, we didn’t readmit Javan, but we did take him back up there today to finish the psychological testing he started Wednesday.  The psychologist he saw was very nice, personable, and easy to talk to. While he won’t have processed the results of testing until at least Monday, he says he’s leaning towards a diagnosis of bipolar-type schizoaffective disorder. From what I can gather, that’s a diagnosis that combines the symptoms of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia under one name. Again, that diagnosis isn’t official, it’s just his best guess at this point since the test results haven’t been processed yet.  The hospital psychiatrist’s diagnosis before discharge was bipolar disorder,  so we’ll see. I don’t think he can have both bipolar and schizoaffective disorder.

While Javan completed the testing, my husband and I met with the family therapist who had been working with him daily during his stay. Her advice was basically to be very firm and ultra consistent. Thanks! If I had only thought of that myself! *eye roll* She was sweet, so I really shouldn’t have that attitude. But there it is. She also set up an appointment for Javan with a therapist in our area who has experience counseling children on the autism spectrum.  We’ll meet with her Wednesday and hopefully she’ll have some more specific strategies we can implement at home. Keep hoping with us.
